Rol: Diaray of a Part-Time Indian

During the class of English the learning objectives are( Improving my reading, writing, speaking, listening)  skills, this is valuable to my future because to improve my writing skills. I want to try to improve it so I can be able to write my essays. This is valuable for my future because in college I will be assigned papers to write and I need to have good writing skills to pass it. My writing skills have definitely improved from the beginning of the year.

The project that I am submitting as an artifact for English had the following learning objectives are Activities while reading. These artifacts have helped me because there were times when I didn’t understand what was going on in the book and those activities would elaborate more on the subject. I liked working on the packets in class with my teacher giving us explanations on how to do it, and also working on it together as a class to extend my understanding of the book. Another artifact that helped me was the history and background before we read the book. This helped me understand in what circumstances the main character of the book was in and why he was going through these tough conflicts. It helps me learn more about the character's culture and where he lives.
The assignment I was assigned to do was write an essay on the book A diary of a Part-Time Indian. The prompt of the essay was “In Sherman Alexie’s book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, the main character Arnold Spirit Jr. has a hard life, but he makes many choices to try to become the person he wants to be.” To meet the learning objectives to answer the prompt of the essay I looked for all the challenges the main character (Arnold) had throughout the book. After I found all the challenges he faced I looked at the steps he took to overcome these hard opticals in his life. Then typed it into my rough draft. After I put them into my rough draft I put them all together and looked for evidence to support my answer. After that I added a little more evidence and little details needed to improve my essay. Throughout this process listed above, I have realized I have learned how much me and Arnold are related in just different ways. I have learned how much one person can grow from conflicts as we call them experiences now. I learned that these things can change us as long as we always think of it positively. These link back to the project goals by showing I have achieved the learning adjective by doing my essay and talking about the prompt. This tells me that I learned about how similar our lives are just in different situations.

The Two School-Wide Learning Outcomes I demonstrated with this Artifact are A self Directed learner who communicates effectively and Mastering skills needed in career and college.
I have demonstrated A self Directed learner who communicates effectively in this project. I have done this essay by myself with no one's help and by being able to put my resources together.
This is important because in order to write a paper you need to be able to know how to get your materials together without anyone's help. have also demonstrated Mastering skills needed in career and college in this project by being able to use my resources available and look for other ones to support my answer. I also looked for connections with myself to give the reader an idea of a real life scenario. This is important because some people need a little more explanation when they read essays.

Overall this project has taught me to become a self directed learner and use these skills in the future. I demonstrated these in many many ways. I learned that all our mistakes and regrets can end up helping us grow in the future even if we don’t see it that way.

Rol: Monster

During the class of English the learning objectives are to be able to read and write and speak correctly. Some skills I’ve learned in this class are learning to improve my handwriting, my reading skills and my hearing skills too. These skills are valuable for my future because when I go to college I need to have good handwriting for my teacher to be able to read it, I need good listening skills so I can be able to hear what the teacher is saying so I can get my education. In order to be successful, I need to study to study zi need to be able to read, I improve my reading skills everytime we read a book as a class. I also improve my vocabulary with every word I read.
The project that I am submitting as an artifact for English, for this project we had  to do our best at organizing ourselves as a group, being able to speak in public loudly and clearly, and be able to explain ourselves correctly.
I Achieved the  learning objective of building Connections between life and literature through reading, writing, and discussions because our book was based on real life situations that are in the real world. We all connected to the book and the project as a class when we would do our journals on our notebooks we would answer questions based on our life, we would compare and contrast his life to ours with the questions. Another way we would connect is our graffiti journals would ask how we connect to the scenario and we could say something in our life or in someone we know. The last way we would connect to real life scenarios is with our packets we would answer questions and get to relate to Steve Harmon the 16 year old main character of the book.

I Achieved the learning objective of working as a team to complete a project by collaborating, speaking my opinions, and to make sure I was on the same page as everyone else. I collaborated with my group by dividing the group work into three parts so we can each have the same amount of work. I spoke my opinions to my group  so one idea can create another and it can be a better idea. I made sure I was on the same page as my group so I won’t get stuck behind or ahead. I wanted them to know what I understood, I wanted them to have the same idea all together. None of us wanted to be confused or anything.
This assignment was assigned as a group. What we had to do as a group was to be able to explain our side of the argument and convince the jury.
The Process I went through to do this project was that first we read the book monster a story of a forteen year old who is in trial for the murder of a store owner. When we finished reading it we had to grab a paper from the hat, we had two choices: prosecution, or defense. As a class we were in groups of 3 or 4 people we all had a group to go against (prosecution v.s defense). As a group we all had to collaborate with our ideas our different view with things, we would write our ideas down and see who would say what and at what time. When it was one day before the presentation I tried my best to memorize all the things I could I felt super nervous. The day of Me and my group dressed up for the presentation so we can get five points of extra credit. How we met the learning objectives is that we  would speak publicly and loudly we had appropriate vocabulary and said true facts. What we could’ve worked on was our organization skills because when I presented it sounded like I did the closing statement but my partner Kaden didn’t finish.
Throughout this process listed above, I have realized I have learned to collaborate with my teammates equally, say what I believe and why I believe it, and talk to people I wouldn’t talk to on a regular day. I used to not divide the work equally sometimes some of us would get more work or less work. Normally on a school project we don’t really say how we feel about things or why and in this project we got to do that. My group member wouldn't really talk to me and I wouldn’t really talk to them, this project really got us close and share how we can relate to the same things.
These link back to the project goals by showing I have done the following things, I have realized I have learned to collaborate with my teammates equally, say what I believe and why I believe it, and talk to people I wouldn’t talk to on a regular day.
This tells me the following about myself and how I learn to be able to give my opinion on things and see how others opinions matter too. I realized how important communication is.
I have demonstrated A self Directed learner who communicates effectively in this project by  giving my opinion about the project to my group members. Many members of other group had opinions but didn't say anything, thinking there opinion doesn’t matter. I communicated my opinion to my group so they can know what I think and why I think it. This is important because I want my voice to be heard when I want to, people’s opinions are really important because you can see things from another perspective.
Another SLO I have demonstrated is Mastering skills needed in career and college in this project by talking to an audience. This is important because I could use this skill later in college when I have a presentation for certain classes.

I could have improved my work on this project by organizing myself better with my teammates. For example We had done a specific order of how we were going to go but we got confused and so did the audience so we need to get a little more organized with our organization.
One thing I would like to improve upon for my next big project is my organization skills with my group members. One thing I would you change if  I had a chance to do this project over again would be again to get a little more organized. One thing that I have seen in my classmates that I would like to get better at is looking at the audience more than the paper because you get a connection with them. One goal I would like to set up for myself for my next project is to look at the audience and try to memorize more of what I am saying.  Overall this project was beneficial to my learning in English because I improved my communication skills with my classmates, and learned what I need to work on.
